I'm finally at peace right now. My computer crashed a little over a week ago and I have been computer-less since. I was freaking out because I thought I lost everything! Thank God that was not the case! So, now everything is backed up on my external hard drive and I am looking into another back up system somewhere else. Looks like the only thing I lost were my folders in Microsoft Outlook--so I lost emails I was saving, I can live with that. It all happened because I was trying to update my version of Family Tree Maker and purchased the 2011 software. While trying to install it, I kept getting error messages. After working through all the suggestions ancestry.com told me to try...I was still having issues. So I turned to the Geek Squad remote services. I paid for their 1 year services and they started working n my computer remotely with a tune-up and installing FTM 2011--all while I went to the beach. When I came home, my computer was crashed! The ironic thing is that they would not take responsibility for crashing my computer! I was told to take it intoBest Buy Geek Squad and they would fix it at no cost to me. LIES, LIES and more LIES! I got a refund from the remote services (which is a separate entity from the in store version) only after my computer became hostage in Best Buy and I had to pay for a service plan with them as well as pay for them to back up all my files before they wiped out my computer to fix it. So, after much aggravation and anxiety...my computer is finally back in my hands. I am just spending time fine tuning it to my specifications again and reloading software. The moral of this true story...DON'T TRUST GEEK SQUAD, especially the remote services department! A hard lesson learned by yours truly!
